Oregon Pacific Railroad Promises Yaquina Bay as Future Port

In a New York dated appeal of May 15 1839 T E Hogg CEO of Oregon Pacific Railroad Company lays out a plan to build a six hundred mile line from Yaquina Bay to central and eastern Oregon. The argument highlights Yaquina Bay as Oregon’s sole sea port linked by rail to Willamette Valley farms and timber districts, claims shorter sea route distances, and describes vast timber coal and mineral resources along the route. The company asserts it will locate and own line towns, own large land holdings, receive tax relief until 1900, and complete the line by autumn 1890 with bonds held by Barker Brothers & Co for construction progress.

They oppose Union Pacific and St Paul Manitou efforts to control Oregon Railway, vow to resist rental reductions, fund debt prudently, and seek a permanent settlement for a harmonious Northwest railroad system. proxies may be sent with substitution power.
