Subway Hearing on Washington Street Subway Bill in Boston

Mayor Hart held a hearing in his office for Boston businessmen and legislators on two subway bills. One backed by the Citizens' Association and the other by the Associated Board of Trade would either have the Elevated Railroad Company build and lease the subway or have the city own it and lease to a railroad. A petition with roughly 1700 names supported city ownership under the Board of Trade bill while some speakers warned against taxation by anonymous groups.
