St Louis Riot Clouds Streetcar Strike Progress

In St Louis on May 16 a riot broke out at the Grand Avenue streetcar line as the transit strike opened. Two men were shot during the unrest. By nightfall the transit company and its 3600 striking workers remained far from a settlement and appeared no closer to resolving their dispute.

Boston Police Honored in General Order Awards

Boston police commissioners issued a general order praising eight officers for bravery and prompt action. Patrolman George W. Lane received three extra vacation days for stopping a runaway horse in Bowdoin Square on April 14. Others, including Patrolmen Frederick D. Zahn Dennis Donovan James W.
