Indestructible ship aims to set new safety standard for Hamburg line
The Hamburg America line orders a twin screw passenger steamer from Blohm & Voss to be virtually unsinkable. It features double sides and a water tight compartment between outer and inner skins, so only the outer hull fills with water in a collision. The craft will be the world’s largest cargo carrier with 20000 tons capacity and berthing for 38 first class, 20 second class, and 600 steerage passengers.
