The coal laden schooner Nelson sank off Grand Marais while in tow by the steamer Folsom and another schooner. Captain Andrew Haghney his wife and two year old child were aboard. the fate of the captain rumored saved but unconfirmed. Folsom and Mitchell returned without serious damage. The Nelson was 163 feet long 32 feet beam 766 gross tons built in 1866.
