The main building of a renowned Somerset institution was destroyed by fire. About 100 students reportedly fought the flames as the summer hotel structure was consumed, leaving the building a total loss.
Three hundred jackies from the United States battleship Georgia and thrice as many guests gathered at Hotel Somerset in Back Bay for an elaborate banquet and dance to celebrate the ship’s return to its home port after over three months away.

Officials of the Boston Elevated Railway Company and 7900 street Carmen's Union members agree that any wage readjustment reached by conference or arbitration shall be effective from May 1 1913. The public statement, signed by all committee members, was issued after a Shawmut Bank conference and marks the only public agreement pending the ongoing talks since April 23.

Chicago May 13. Jack Johnson, famed heavyweight fighter, found guilty on all seven counts of transporting Belle Schreiber from Pittsburg to Chicago in 1910 under the federal white slave law. Jury deliberated about an hour. Maximum penalty five years imprisonment or a $10,000 fine or both.
Powder Point Hall in Duxbury, home to 50 Powder Point School pupils, was destroyed by fire tonight as 100 students fought flames with local hand tub companies. Despite efforts, the building and hostel burned to ashes before midnight. Some personal effects were saved. several narrow escapes were noted as students braved the blaze to retrieve items.
A blaze swept through a block between Somerville avenue and Congress Street wiping out three buildings in the tenement district bordered by Poplar and Linwood streets. Contained by firefighters, the fire threatened nearby homes as damage was estimated and investigators began work on the causes.
