Girl in wreck of monoplane at Hempstead Plains
Miss Harriett Quinby of New York attempted a takeoff in a 380 horsepower Bleriot type monoplane at Hempstead Plains. The machine broke apart as the running gear forks and one wing were damaged, but she kept her seat, stopped the engine, and jumped clear.
