Boston Flats Plan To Buy Commonwealth Flats
A European and American capital consortium led by American Building Trust of Boston proposes spending 40 million dollars to purchase the Commonwealth flats of South Boston from the State and develop the waterfront as a combined railroad and steamship terminal. Woodward Emery, former Harbor and Land Commission chairman, among about 40 organizers and counsel, will present the plan to the State next week.

Steamer Merida Sank After Night Collision Off Virginia
Off Norfolk Virginia May 12 a sea accident nearly a tragedy occurred when the Ward line steamer Merida en route from Havana to New York with 319 aboard was rammed and sunk by the fruit steamer Admiral Farragut from Philadelphia to Port Antonio. The vessel sank in 35 fathoms 55 miles northeast of Cape Charles prompting dramatic rescue and escape narratives.
