John T. Hurley a 43 year old of 108 Wayland Street Roxbury was found with a broken nose concussion and severe facial injuries on Brattle Street near the Quincy House. He was taken to Relief Hospital after saying four men assaulted him and left him insensible. A Marston's patron alerted the hospital.

Police report a six year old girl Josephine McCahill missing since May 2 was found tonight wrapped in rags in a chimney at her Third Avenue home. The body was badly mutilated and believed placed there recently. Rewards totaling 3850 and mass meetings had fueled the search.

Everett Abbott Arrested in San Francisco for Embezzlement

Everett Abbott former treasurer of the American Marine Transportation Company of Boston was arrested in San Francisco on a charge of embezzling $5852 from his employers after fleeing Boston on March 15. He is expected to yield to extradition. Abbott, a Chelsea resident for eight years, was known as a skilled salesman and had access to the firm's bonds and books.

Surety Company Moves Against Abbott

In Boston a representative of the American Surety Company sought a warrant for Abbott after his arrest. Abbott, 27, treasurer of American Marine Transportation Company, bond for 5000 dollars. The company investigated bonds sales of 15000 to 25000 dollars tied to the enterprise building fast coal barges to Philadelphia. The big five master, near completion, was auctioned in East Boston as part of the venture. Abbott had served as treasurer since the company’s founding two and a half years ago.

Murderer Posed as Deserted Soldier Kills Burlington Policeman

James P. McGrath, a Burlington police officer, was shot and killed tonight by a prisoner he had arrested in the lumber district. The assailant escaped. Frank Drake, a deserter from the Fifteenth Cavalry, was arrested two hours later but denied involvement. Police doubt Drake’s guilt and plan further questioning.

Bishop Lawrence called at police headquarters with Mrs Lawrence to aid Chief Watts in a pickpocket incident that relieved him of $20.
