In Los Angeles on May 12 the Methodist general conference is expected to revoke the existing prohibition on dancing card games and theatre going. A sub-committee led by Judge H. B. Sibley recommended changing the rule to an advisory restriction rather than a mandatory ban.
Chinatown faces renewed threats from Yee Wah On Leong Tong and Hep Sing Tong factions. Police report armed guards and patrols after a past Beach Street murder and a recent raid linked to blackmail demands. Yee Wah and On Leong claim Hep Sing imported the killers, with clashes seen as imminent.
Enraged by the mutilation of a comrade, about a dozen motormen and conductors of the Boston Elevated, wielding controller handles and switch bars, led by a yelling mob, broke into a location last night. A map shows Port Dalny, a city razed by Russians to avoid capture by the Japanese, with a brief note on nearby lines and towns including Port Arthur, Moukden, and Kinchow.
London May 13 The Russians razed Port Dalny to keep it from Japanese capture. Wharves piers warehouses and public buildings were blown up as explosions echoed for miles. Japanese near Port Dalny, siege guns moved toward Port Arthur. Skirmishes reported in southern Manchuria with a major battle anticipated at Liaoyang.

John T. Hurley a 43 year old of 108 Wayland Street Roxbury was found with a broken nose concussion and severe facial injuries on Brattle Street near the Quincy House. He was taken to Relief Hospital after saying four men assaulted him and left him insensible. A Marston's patron alerted the hospital.
Police report a six year old girl Josephine McCahill missing since May 2 was found tonight wrapped in rags in a chimney at her Third Avenue home. The body was badly mutilated and believed placed there recently. Rewards totaling 3850 and mass meetings had fueled the search.
The forecast calls for Friday in and around Boston to be fair with rising temperatures. Expect light winds and mild conditions throughout the day.

Everett Abbott former treasurer of the American Marine Transportation Company of Boston was arrested in San Francisco on a charge of embezzling $5852 from his employers after fleeing Boston on March 15. He is expected to yield to extradition. Abbott, a Chelsea resident for eight years, was known as a skilled salesman and had access to the firm's bonds and books.
In Boston a representative of the American Surety Company sought a warrant for Abbott after his arrest. Abbott, 27, treasurer of American Marine Transportation Company, bond for 5000 dollars. The company investigated bonds sales of 15000 to 25000 dollars tied to the enterprise building fast coal barges to Philadelphia. The big five master, near completion, was auctioned in East Boston as part of the venture. Abbott had served as treasurer since the company’s founding two and a half years ago.
James P. McGrath, a Burlington police officer, was shot and killed tonight by a prisoner he had arrested in the lumber district. The assailant escaped. Frank Drake, a deserter from the Fifteenth Cavalry, was arrested two hours later but denied involvement. Police doubt Drake’s guilt and plan further questioning.
Bishop Lawrence called at police headquarters with Mrs Lawrence to aid Chief Watts in a pickpocket incident that relieved him of $20. Two Pawtucket men and a companion were sought after pictures of Michael Mullen and John J Moore were shown. the bishop did not recognize them. He consented to help but wished to avoid court entanglements if an arrest occurred.
Boston police commissioner Emmons pledges to save young girls from organized cadet gangs in the West End. He vows to investigate thoroughly and drive out all such rings with full police power, while officials like Chief Watts and community leaders support action amid reports of arrests and grand jury review.

Directors of American Tube Works Somerville refuse a $1 weekly raise request from 598 workers. Union president William J. Cunningham says bitter feelings prevail and a bitter end is expected as Local Union 5 of the International Association of Tube Workers of America takes a stand.
A YMCA mock presidential convention representing 27 debating societies met in Association Hall Boston last evening and nominated Theodore Roosevelt. E P Chaplin of Cambridge chaired. Roosevelt led with 391 votes to Olney 160 and Fairbanks to Hearst 4.
