London reports that in the last 24 hours Japanese tactics gave them full control of the Liaotung peninsula and southern Manchuria. Experts say General Kuropatkin may be cut off as Japanese outflank Liao Yang. A major battle is expected within 24 hours. Rumor of Russians blowing up ships at Port Arthur is unconfirmed.
Boston dealer Thomas O Connor is found dead on railroad tracks near Fitchburg on April 18. His will leaves $20 000 to former partner Edward W Murphy of 100 Boylston Street Boston. Three Lowell relatives claim kinship and say they left Ireland 27 years ago. Murphy denies, issued ad seeking the missing woman in Philadelphia papers.
Six men die and many are injured in a powder explosion at shaft No 7 of the Big Muddy Coal and Iron Mine Company near Herrin. About 325 workers were underground when a car of fifty kegs of powder detonated. The blast wrecked the mine and rescuers fear more deaths as injured workers are tended.
Boston Americans edged Detroit 1 to 0 at Huntington Avenue Grounds after 15 dramatic innings. Cy Young and Kittredge pitched superbly as neither side scored through 14 frames. Dougherty delivered the decisive hit with one out as darkness threatened, sealing a historic win.

In Mindanao at Simpatem on Lake Liguasan an ambush by Moros slaughtered two US army officers and 15 soldiers from Company F Seventeenth United States Infantry. The killed officers were First Lieutenant Harry A. Woodruff and Second Lieutenant Joseph H. Hall. Woodruff hailed from Indiana via New York, Hall from Alabama after an enlistment from the ranks.

Ethel Kimball a 20 year old resident of 87 Foster Street Brighton is arrested by Cambridge police for forging and uttering a check. She allegedly used a forged Atlas National Bank Boston check for $3 at Norton's stable and was taken to Station 2 then Station 1 for examination.
Meyer Bloomfield, head worker of the Civic Service House, described Ida Klein as a 17 year old girl from New York lured to Boston by Bernard Parsky and subjected to abuse by a West End cadet gang. Parsky was arrested in Chelsea and held on $800 bonds. a companion was freed.
Thomas W. Lawson claims a substantial victory as Amalgamated interests move toward settling with Heinze in Montana. He notes a stock rise in Amalgamated to 49 in New York and 48½ in Boston and hints he may halt receivership plans if prices reach par and war ends. He pressed for a settlement after warning against Amalgamated’s war strategy.
Sandy Ferguson, heavyweight prize fighter of Chelsea, tried to kidnap his own baby daughter in Gloucester last evening after his wife, formerly Miss Mason of Gloucester, left him. Her 16 year old brother Charles wrestled the gun away and drove him off.
