London May 13 The Japanese have three large guns in place near Liaoyang ready to unleash a torrential shelling on the Russian lines. The advance guard has reached a staging area, fortifications can be quickly erected, and heavy artillery has been moved up. A brutal bombardment and fierce land fighting are anticipated at once.

An unknown man delirious with likely delirium tremens was found in the street and rushed to Relief Hospital after Officer French of Station 1 pulled out an iron tracheotomy tube from his throat. The officer’s error nearly cost the man his life, but he survived long enough for hospital care.
In Wakefield on May 13 Judge Emmons displayed two photographs of Jesse Pomeroy during a talk to the Men's Club at the Universalist Church despite relatives’ objections. An informal reception followed the address.

Lieutenant Rosatto and North End police trapped Dominico De Feo, accused of a May murder in Paterson New Jersey, hiding in the forecastle of the White Star liner Romanic. Miss Beatrice Blake, Brookline’s wealthy and noted beauty, was found unconscious on Hammond Street Thursday afternoon. Authorities have not determined if she was thrown from a horse or attacked by footpads. The incident remained quiet until last night as she stayed largely unconscious. Memory of the afternoon was blank even after regaining consciousness. The isolated street supports the footpad theory. Miss Blake is the daughter of Mrs Arthur W. Blake.

Union Avenue resident Joseph McNulty, a Jamaica Plain street car conductor, was stabbed in the left elbow by Harry Parsons of Charlestown aboard a Forest Hills car near Chelsea. A mob chased Parsons from Chelsea ferry to Commercial Street, beating him unconscious with kicks and blows before police and doctors treated McNulty at Station 8 and the Relief Hospital. Parsons, hospitalized, could not recall the incident, while McNulty suffered multiple injuries, including two knife wounds and a broken shoulder blade. McNulty is the second conductor assaulted within 24 hours.
Maybelle Courtney renowned actress sues Henry W Bates president of the Commercial Financial Association of No 2 Congress Street alleging breach of promise of marriage. Court filings identify Bates as the defendant and Courtney as the plaintiff in a high profile dispute.
Los Angeles May 13 The education committee's subcommittee report on heresy charges against Garrett Biblical Institute and Boston University School of Theology is challenged as a whitewash by Dr Munhall and followers.
