Riots at Hyde Park during suffrage meeting in London

May 11 Hyde Park witnessed a suffrage rally by the Men’s League for Women’s Suffrage halted by a crowd shouting bombs and arson remarks. Police protected speakers as a wagon was wrecked and a flag was torn down. Rev. Howard J. H. Truscott condemned the fire at St. Catherine’s Hatcham and said some suffragists repudiated the acts.

Six Injured in Cincinnati Car Strike Clash

In Cincinnati on May 11 a clash between local traction company workers and strikers left one motorman from Chicago fatally injured and three others hurt. Charles Weber was pulled from his car and injured internally and is not expected to live. The other three injuries were from thrown missiles but not serious.

Striker Violence Ties Up City Streetcar System

Two fatal injuries in the strike incident are reported. John Cochran fell while leaving a hall after Coopers' Union met and passed pro strike resolutions, breaking his neck. William Goode was shot by a Black man after a dispute over the strike. Both men survive but are not expected to live. The Friday night strike has halted city streetcar service. efforts to resume run tomorrow amid tense conditions.

King Alfonso arrived in Madrid after a French visit and was met with unusual enthusiasm. Women strewed flowers along the path from the station to the palace as government and diplomatic dignitaries, the Queen and Queen Mother welcomed the king’s safe return.
