Silver vault move begins at Philadelphia mint

On May 9 the transfer of 968 million silver dollars from the mint and post office vaults to the new mint vaults at Sixteenth and Spring Garden streets started. The 8,000 boxes will be moved by United States Express Company with four armed guards per wagon and two government reps at each vault. The operation spans about 116 days.
