Mrs May Prue, 62, mother of six, was arrested for shoplifting as police recovered over $800 worth of goods from her Bay View home. Stores had lately complained of losses amid the spree.
Attorney General Monnett in the Ohio Supreme Court identifies Charles B. Squires as the party who allegedly offered bribes to dismiss suits against Standard Oil. He notes the plaintiff cannot name the specific representative of Daniel J. Ryan but can obtain testimony via court-ordered process.
Forecast for Tuesday shows showers in New England and eastern New York with inland areas affected. Wednesday brings fair, warmer conditions with strong northeasterly winds along the coast and a shift to easterly to variable winds inland.
Arthur A. Noyes of 66 Clifford Street was arrested for larceny of $60 worth of black tin pipe from J. W. Tufts at 282 Congress Street. Police recovered the missing pipe after observing Noyes with bundles outside the store and finding six bundles in his rooms. He had long served as chief engineer for the employer.
A bell boy and a white hotel worker clashed at the Clarendon Hotel in Tremont Street over who was the better man. The clerk, Atkinson, suffered nine deep razor cuts and facial wounds. the bell boy fled with a white-handled razor. Police pursued the bell boy, ER. Dr. McApton, as the incident drew attention at Emergency Hospital.
Mary McGuiggan, once Mr. John J. Farrell’s housekeeper, sues for $25 000 claiming he promised to marry and fathered her seven year old daughter. Farrell disputes paternity as writ is placed on his Suffolk county property. he has married recently and is defended by Gargan & Keating.
The Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company elected Lieutenant Edward P. Cramm commander, defeating Colonel Henry Walker in a keen race tied to plans for a London visit. The vote count surpassed a hundred, with supporters of both candidates courting younger and older members alike.
The body of a 50 year old man was found floating in the Merrimac River this afternoon. Papers in his clothing indicate he is possibly George Maton formerly living in the city and driving a job wagon. Features are badly disfigured and positive identification is not certain.
