Rail and bank chiefs split on securities changes in bill

Fires Give Firemen a Busy Day's Work

A day of 10 alarms and 120 horses burned across Boston area as multiple fires struck Dorchester Roxbury and downtown. A Pulman car blaze in Boston & Albany yards endangered Engine 33 22 and Chemical 2 while a four story brick at 389 Washington street burned. losses ranged from 1500 to 3880 dollars and one man was seriously burned. The Dorchester barn fire at 19 Wales place destroyed 45 harness sets and 20 tons of hay with 21 horses saved except one, while another blaze at 214 North street damaged a five story building. widespread alarms followed with small grass and ash fires downtown and a false alarm at Box 280 ending the busy day. The Luncheon Sea Grill fire at 4612 Warren street threatened tenement districts and injured watchman George Engman escape with severe burns.

Vetoes and defeats mark Senate actions on taxes and wages

In the Senate yesterday a bill to reimburse abutters to the Boston Psychiatric Hospital for damages from the institution was defeated 19 to 138. Governor Foss vetoed a bill allowing voters to change enrollment up to primaries filing and vetoed a wage increase for laborers on the Metropolitan Park and Sewerage Boards to 2.50 a day. The House sent several more salary rise bills, including for the adjutant general department, Dorchester court officers, and the second deputy treasurer.

Bryan credits Wilson and reform at public dinner

The ambassadorial conference met for two hours in London but reached no decision. The peace conference will reconvene in London with detachments likely to take control of Scutari as part of final settlements.
