Wild riot as striking pupils smash schools and clash with police

In South Boston and Roxbury, about 200 to 1000 striking pupils aged 8 to 45 smashed windows at Lee John A Andrew Clinch Langrince Norcross Bigelow and other schools. Police reserves struggled to break the marchers as two boys aged 9 and 11 were taken to Station 6 after clashes. Parents defended their sons amid chaotic scenes and later punishments roiled the Peninsula district.

Cambridge School Windows Break as 50 Boys Parade

A Cambridge disorder involving about 50 boys damaged windows at the Ellis and Shepard schools and nearby Thorndike Putnam and Gore buildings. Two youths, Thomas Gayton and Henry Myette, were arrested for fire setting and disturbing the peace. Myette identified as ringleader.

Trouble in Roxbury parade ends in property damage

About 300 Roxbury youths and some girls marched from Madison Park at seven p.m. demanding one school session. They smashed windows at Sherwin Lewis and Dudley schools, stoned houses on Shawmut and Roxbury streets, and clashed with police who dispersed the crowd near Eliot Square and Roxbury court house.
