Dennis Sweeney and three fellow inspectors Sweeney Hussey Murtha and Thompson were found guilty by a Supreme Court jury of conspiring to obstruct justice in a landmark graft exposure. The verdict described as the most important of its kind highlights police corruption findings.

The four inspectors faced verdicts after a seven day trial amid a disrupted courtroom. Prosecutors tied the case to bribery aimed at silencing resort keeper George A. Sipp who fled after claiming $2000 bribe to leave. If granted, a certificate of reasonable doubt could allow bail and a new trial.

Springfield May 6 Charles Sumner Bird Progressive party candidate for governor declared he would not run on a compromise ticket with Republicans. The rally drew over 1500 supporters at City Hall Auditorium as Bird rejected any joint ticket with the GOP and pressed for independent Progressive candidacy.
Thorshaven reports Knud Rasmussen’s Greenland expedition has returned after three years. At Peary Land the Danish explorer found many seals and musk oxen supplies, and a large ice-free tract of land. The party halted a month before a 600 mile return at about 31 miles per day, using only Eskimo outfitting and tins of provisions.
Lawrence May 6 Former Mayor Smith B W Davis died tonight at the home for Aged Persons aged 89 He was a Republican in politics serving as president of the City Council and was elected Mayor in 1871 He was a native of Foster Rhode Island and had been a Lawrence resident for many years retiring in 1878.
In London the House of Commons rejected a woman suffrage bill after a heated debate. Irish Nationalists voted solidly against it amid militant tactics cited as a cause of the defeat. Separately, aviator Harry N. Atwood faces divorce action filed by wife Sarah J. Atwood in Reno Nevada accusing desertion and seeking custody of a minor child.
In London on May 6, the suffrage bill was rejected 266 to 219 after Irish Nationalists backed it against. Premier Asquith vowed to resign if colleagues urged him to quit the government, amid news of the St Catherine's Church fire in Hatcham.
Mrs Atwood formerly Miss Jenkins of Lynn came to Reno about November last year with her 38 year old daughter. They rented a suite in a fashionable south Reno apartment house and kept her identity secret for six weeks. She used only the name Mrs Atwood to avoid her own initials or husband’s. North Cambridge districts see a regulation strike by Shepard and Ellis grammar schools pupils demanding shorter hours and one session. Over a hundred students paraded Massachusetts avenue after school, recruiting new supporters and shouting We want one session in a loud chorus.
About 60 Ellis School students marched to Shepard School on Massachusetts avenue to urge one school session with longer noon recess. Officers and Headmaster Buckley supervised as 12 Shepard students were reprimanded. Protest leaders planned a City Hall march for the next day.
A fire in a vacant Brookline house at 19 Addington Road caused about 1000 dollars in damage. The owner is Milton F. Reynolds of Brookline. Officials believe the blaze resulted from spontaneous combustion.
