Senator William Alden Smith of Michigan stated he has sworn testimony from Mrs. J Stuart White of Briarcliffe New York who left the Titanic in lifeboat No 8. She testified the boat carried 23 women and three men including a seaman and two non rowers.
Colonel Roosevelt met with Matthew Hale and Arthur D. Hill in Oyster Bay to press for Roosevelt delegates at large from last Tuesday’s primaries to withdraw their stance and back President Taft at the Republican convention. The talks also cover securing control of the state committee. The report appears in a Bay State campaign update with further details continued on page 2.
William A. Merrill charged with murdering George E. Marsh a wealthy soap manufacturer in Lynn Massachusetts April 11 was taken from Stockton jail to the county courtroom for a habeas corpus hearing arranged by his attorney Ben Berry.
Mrs White described the men as neither kind nor courteous and said they lit pipes or cigarettes despite ignitable material aboard. She concluded the light was from a schooner five to ten miles away, with a boat capacity of at least 60 but carrying 26 people as they rowed toward the light.

Dr. I B Ladd examined Dorr, deeming him frightened and feigning illness to avoid detention. The doctor suggested tube feeding if nourishment was refused. Berry urged better medical care for Dorr.
The rivers and harbors appropriation grows to 32 million with Senate committee adds 8.06 million on top of House funding. Notable increases include 2.5 million for the Mississippi River bringing its total to six million, plus 250 thousand for Nantucket Sound area, 56.61 thousand for New Bedford and Fairhaven, 54 thousand for New Haven, and 500 thousand for Jamaica Bay New York.
Worcester report states L. H. Spinney of Dorchester died at Worcester Hospital from a fractured skull after an automobile he rode in struck a telephone pole on the outskirts of Leicester. He was registered at a local hotel as a resident of 1 Ashland Street Dorchester.
James D. Curwen, garage proprietor, drove from Worcester to Leicester when three pedestrians forced his car off the road. The vehicle struck a soft ground area and hit a telephone pole. Spinney was thrown against the pole, died en route to Worcester Hospital. Curwen unhurt, not detained by police. Spinney identified as Leander H. Spinney, chauffeur, Dorchester.
Frank P. Bennett editor of the Wool and Cotton Reporter was honored at the Somerset with a reception and a handsome loving cup in recognition of his quarter century of service to the textile industry. Prominent figures attended and lauded his contributions.

In Ipswich a 26 year old woman Miss Lillian Hutchins died by ingesting carbolic acid after jealousy over Miss Bertha Saunders and Miss Bessie Bliss. Hutchins gave Bliss a package to bury with her. A note to Bliss and another to the mill superintendent were found. Bliss, grieving, remains ill at her mother's home.
Miss Hutchins drank acid in view of her roommate and before intervention, in front of the South Congregational Church on South Main street, a chilling incident reported in the neighborhood.
