Harry N Atwood landed his biplane in Wells Maine at 6 15 pm after a 75 mile flight from Saugus Massachusetts. He planned to continue to Portland for fun but darkness forced a stop. He is the first aviator to fly into Maine from another state.
Six delegates at large refuse Roosevelt request to vote for Taft, claiming duty to Roosevelt. Roosevelt allies rush to Oyster Bay for clarification while Taft leaders plan to fight for seating at Chicago. News notes a party split amid unclear primary law and looming convention actions.
The Stars and Stripes were torn down and trampled under foot during a May 1 demonstration in New York, with a red flag observed nearby. Continued on Page 16-7th Column.

A jury was sworn tonight to try Floyd Allen, indicted for five murders in the Carroll courthouse on March 14. After hours of voir dire, nine farmers and three merchants make up the jurors. The defense used its four peremptory challenges and court adjourned after dusk. The charge to the jury and opening statements are set for tomorrow.
Fair weather expected across Boston and vicinity on Thursday followed by unsettled conditions on Friday with occasional showers and light variable winds. For New England the outlook is generally fair on Thursday and Friday with light to moderate south winds.
