Wreckers working between Province Street and 323 Washington Street expose the weathered brick remains of the Province House. The ancient mansion, built 243 years ago, sits amid newer surrounding structures, its walls newly visible after years of concealment.
The house has sheltered princes pirates and patriots including English governors and American generals and now sits bare for a few days before its demolition to make room for a large modern theatre. It has served many purposes through the years.
Mathew J. Lamb aged 18 in quotes as Arthur J. Peters is jailed by Inspectors Farrell and Haggerty on charges of larceny totaling 231 and 9843.75 from George Holbrook of Medford. He allegedly posed as a New York stock salesman and used a worthless New York check to cover a 600 share deal, prompting arrest and prison commitment.
A bill reported by city committees proposes lowering elevated railway fares and placing part of the deficit on general taxation. Street railways in Boston and other municipalities served by the El would face a reduction while voters decide the plan.

A lone burglar has smashed into 14 Brattle Street Cambridge houses in the past 20 days stealing jewelry valued at about $3000. Despite revolver shots and a dozen officers watching the area, he continues his break ins. Residents remain on edge as police intensify patrols.

In Winsted Connecticut on May 1 a five year old boy Addison Barrcolis wandered toward a work train on the Berkshire division. The engineer stopped the train when a woman signaled. The boy had tried to board a freight car and had his right arm crushed resulting in amputation. He was admitted to the County Hospital in Winsted with guarded recovery ahead.
