Ismay urges Titanic reforms after disaster hearing
In Washington April 30 J Bruce Ismay head of International Mercantile Marine urged lifeboats and automatic rafts plus double hulls and extended compartments for future liners. He testified before the Titanic inquiry and discussed ship controls, mail contracts, and the scale of IMMs fleet. Ismay said Olympic and Titanic were ordered to be the largest ships, and he had only briefly visited the Titanic’s bridge before the accident.
