Beverly March 27 Thousands of dollars in wines and liquors were stolen from Henry Cannon Clark's wine cellar on Hart Street Beverly Farms while the family was away in Palm Beach. Police found cut telephone and burglar alarm wires and traces of a light truck used to haul the goods from the home.
Harris S. Holzwenger faced charges of non support and keeping liquor for sale and pleaded guilty. Judge Lummus placed him on probation on the non support count while the liquor charge was continued for three months. In the corridor his wife struck him with a right to the jaw to the admiration of bystanders, witnessed by three of their four children.
In Bridgeport on March 27, 76 year old industrialist Jonathan Godfrey and his 20 year old wife Estelle Mudge Godfrey appear in a startling domestic triangle with a ward. Estelle kissed Godfrey before leaving to live with relatives in Bristol Rhode Island. She later announced plans to sue for divorce on grounds of incompatibility.
The banks and banking committee reported leave to withdraw on various Simon Swig bills and against Judge Louis Swig proposals. It urged that trust company stock dividends not exceed deposit interest, forbids trust fund investments in other trust stocks or national banks, and deems funds in rail stock after Jan 1 1923 as improper. Minneapolis March 27 Theodore Christianson of Dawson announced his withdrawal from the Republican congressional contest opposing A. J. Volstead. His action was accepted by Republican leaders as assurance that Volstead, author of the Volstead Act, would be endorsed by the district convention at Willman next Thursday.
A 2 calibre pistol was used in a failed holdup on S J Leahy of 109 Walden Street Cambridge near Mount Vernon Street Bridge.
