One paddlewheel on the Providence of the Fall River line broke off Narragansett Pier while en route to New York. The ship anchored as help was summoned by wireless. A nearby Sound steamer was to tow her to Newport where passengers would transfer to a special train to New York.
Three jumps, by different men, were logged by police last night. One freed a burglar found in a South Boston jewelry shop. Another released a patient from a New England hospital during a dormerage incident. The third caused a Dorchester man's severe injuries as he rushed to help children in a fire.
A blaze at 78 Torrey Street scars a home while Clarence T. Hoyt, 29, leaped to protect his family and suffered a brain concussion. George A. Stewart estimates $200 in furniture damage and suspects arson. A hospital resident jumped from a Fenway ward window and fled. In South Boston a jewelry store burglary at 420 Broadway left 15 watches behind as the thief fled through a window.
Emma Eames ran amuck in her Pittsburgh apartments at the Hotel Schenley. Valley Morgan, a bell boy, was hospitalized with two crushed fingers a blow under the ear and a black eye after being struck and dodging another swing.
A Pittsburgh hotel bell boy named Morgan alleges he sparked a clash in the room of singer Miss Eames after delivering a yellow paper with a bold Eames DeGorgorza story. He says he was trapped by a door while she prevented his exit, leaving him injured and unable to work. The hotel confirms a disturbance but restricts comment. Miss Eames declined interview requests.
Mrs Ethel Wallace and Eddie Moore were involved in a razor duel at 65 Williams Street Roxbury yesterday afternoon. Wallace says Moore rushed at her with a razor slashing her left breast before she wrestled a razor away. Both were taken to City Hospital.

Washington March 26 In the folds of her shroud the material evidence of the death secret of Mrs Pierre Lorillard Jr is sealed with her body tonight on its final journey to the grave The funeral party left the Lorillard residence on Hillyer Place at 5 o clock this afternoon for New York The casket will be interred tomorrow at the old Lorillard home in Irvington on the Hudson.
The prominent Lorillard family faces a dramatic death by own action as the body is hurried to the station on Massachusetts Avenue. Only mourners present were her husband and son Pierre. The deceased reportedly left a note on the envelope reading Bury this with my body unopened, with ink freshly smeared. A second note was written earlier by Mrs Lorillard.
Ferdinand Pinney Earle artist and poet famed for the affinity idea was served with divorce papers filed by Mrs Earle formerly Julia Kuttner of New York. She claims he was of unsound mind at the time of their marriage and the suit was served at his home near Monroe Middletown N Y.
Edward H. Harriman cancels extending stay in California and prepares to depart for New York tomorrow or Sunday. He indicates a desire to resume duties set two months earlier.
President Taft converts the Roosevelt tennis court into a cow pasture. Mrs. Taft buys a cow that grazes and moos where Roosevelt and his tennis cabinet once capered and loved all.
Washington March 26 The Roosevelt order removing Marines from battleships and cruisers has been reversed. President Taft directed restoring Marines to ships with duties as before the ashore order, following Congress and cabinet discussions. The old regulations, favored by the General Board, are reinstated.
Miss Mary M. McNeil a Pormort Primary School teacher says she faced attacks and threats while protecting her student, 8 year old Dominic Dimarto. A patrolman escorts her daily to the school as custody dispute prompts the disappearance of the boy amid alleged assaults at the school and on his grandfather.
Theodore Eliot of Harvard University is to be named ambassador to London with Taft’s backing. He initially refused but accepted after persuasion, joining a line of wealthy diplomats and promising to restore a culture-focused legation. Eliot plans to assume duties next fall after presenting credentials.
