Mrs. Emery and her daughter Miss Helen Gladys Emery depart Corte Madera after disputes with neighbors and a long infatuation with Gunjiro Aoki. They met Aoki in Sacramento as they begin life anew in Tacoma, Washington.
A divided scene at the station as a crowd harassed two travelers, while Miss Emery issued a bold personal statement about her engagement to Gunjiro Aoki a Japanese native. She declares love, rejects slurs and dismisses outside opinion, with continued coverage on page seven fourth column.
Jesse C. Powers 27 was hospitalized after leaping 85 feet from the Congregational Church steeple at Wendell while temporarily insane. He suffered crushed ankles and possible internal injuries but was conscious on arrival, with witnesses noting days of nervousness prior to the act.

A 14 hour storm battered New England with winds up to 70 miles off Highland Light and 50 off Hull. The gale damaged wires and trees, caused washouts in Boston, wrecked the schooner Revola on Winter Island, and swamped a power boat off Long Island. The Boston Revere Beach and Lynn railroad train narrowly avoided a harbor plunge. Heaviest surf hit Winthrop and Revere. lights out in Gloucester.
Washington forecast notes for New England predict rain or snow then clearing and colder Friday and Saturday with increasing cloudiness and warmer, as high northwest winds rise. Steamers bound for Europe will encounter northwest gales Friday diminishing to fair weather toward the Grand Banks.
Mrs. Lorillard died at her residence after a gas odor was detected by the butler at 8 30 this morning. Doctors failed to revive her following an autopsy ordered by Deputy Coroner Glazebrook. The coroner, J Ramsey Nevitt, ruled death by own action by gas poisoning.
Mrs. R. M. Flint and Miss Dorothy Flint of Roxbury and Miss Dorothy Garvin of Dorchester leaped to safety when their hack horses bolted and struck an electric car near Whiton Hall Centre street Dorchester. Driver Frank Breasce was knocked down while trying to halt the runaway rig.
At the Cadman and Washington corner an electric stalled causing a horse team to lurch through a sharp bend. The carriage toppled and the door tore away as three women leaped out unharmed. The team continued until Stop by Reserve Officer James McInnes at Ashmont Street.
At 2 25 this morning flames roared through a basement at 18 Auburn street West End. Eleven people were asleep and Samuel Soubel his wife Annie and two children leaped from a first floor window ten feet high to escape. Sergeant Burns and Officers Tilton Barnett Harrison rescued the family and Mrs Dora Turner. The fire is said to be incendiary.

Governor Draper ordered an immediate halt to the sale of tuberculous beef after Attorney General Malone advised the state law forbids such sales. He directed the State Board of Health and Dr. Peters to enforce the order and protect the public, following a House inquiry from Representative Freeman O Emerson of Ward 12.
Annie McDermott, daughter of a Chicago businessman, identified as the kidnapper of Billy Whitla. Her mother is Mrs. Catherine McDermott. father's name not disclosed. Meanwhile James H. Boyle and his wife, arrested as the kidnappers, were escorted to an Erie train for Mercer, Penn. Cleveland authorities prepare to pursue charges of blackmail in a joint indictment against the Boyles.
The charge stems from J P Whitle’s $10000 ransom payment for his son Willie Whitla last Monday. Police say Boyle and wife deny involvement in the kidnapping case and the couple were escorted to the depot amid a jeering crowd as they left the central station. Police Prosecutor Cull states Mrs Boyle had no part in the alleged offense in Pennsylvania.
A special report by the City Street Commissioners to the Common Council contends that laying out Queensbury Peterboro and Jersey streets in Back Bay cost 467 835 47 while proper adherence to agreements would have cost 123 641 75. George A Crocker calls it waste and graft. The council ordered printing as a public document.
Malone endorses the stance that meat from infected animals cannot be sold in the state and urges enforcement. The Governor’s message to the Legislature seeks changes to align statutes with prior acts and to close loopholes in tainted beef regulation.
