The public works department received orders to discontinue laying flagstones for cross walks. Mayor Curley said the move aims to cut costs and improve durability, noting the flagstone supplier has held a city monopoly since the town began. He favors old granite blocks with grouted joints as a cheaper, more serviceable alternative.
