A London cablegram reported in Galveston says immediate peace is in sight and a lumber charter deal may be canceled. High standing firms were involved though names were not disclosed. Elsewhere German attacks near Verdun were repelled with heavy losses as French guns blunted the assault.
El Paso report says the Carranzista detachment refused to fight Villa and moved north to Juarez. Three columns of American troops are converging on the Mexican bandit leader within 36 hours. The pursuit follows his defeat by Carranzistas and his retreat northward.
Patrick Roddy of 39 Union Street Charlestown sustained a fracture to his right foot yesterday after his foot was caught in a track switch and a dirt car struck him while working in the new Dorchester tunnel. He was taken to City Hospital.
Boston lobbyist Benjamin F. Gibby linked to a major dispute over a forthcoming memoir "Putting It Over" about the "Old Boy" with Roxbury novelist Lavina Walsh claiming authorship and the profits. The long-time Beacon Hill figure faces a high profile clash as legal and literary questions surface.

Plymouth March 20 1914 witnesses described steaks being surreptitiously carried out of the B A A clubhouse during renovation. Dr Russell A Richards sues for 20000 alleging unlawful expulsion as Stephen W Sleeper testified at the trial.

A West Everett electric car travelling 25 miles an hour crashed into a broken rail on the Mystic Bridge. The vehicle teetered across its tracks and was halted by bridge girders, saving it from tumbling into the river. Fifty passengers were shocked. Mrs Marion Nowell was injured. A Reading car narrowly stopped two feet away.
An 11 year old girl was accosted by a Negro on Dorchester avenue. A mob formed to lynch Columbus Dorsey as police with revolvers and clubs fought them near South Station. Dorsey was restrained as the girl lay unconscious and officers were bruised.
A 15 year old, George Peckham of 13 Isabella street, demanded money with a small revolver at 446 Tremont street. Albert Bullard was wounded. Peckham fled with a gunfire exchange that injured a bystander and led to his arrest. Police tracked him to East Dedham street station where he was booked as a delinquent.
The report notes the 81st day of the year and the second day of spring with a 12 hour day length of 11 minutes more than December 22. It lists sunset at 5 57 and lunar rise at 8 39 p m with lights auto at 6 27 and other vehicles at 6 57. It recalls one year earlier two German airships attacked Paris wounding eight. Unsettled warm spell in Washington dispatch shows southern New England expected to grow cloudy and warmer on Tuesday with rain or snow overnight into Wednesday. Far northern New England also warms Tuesday then Vermont faces snow Wednesday.
In San Antonio reports say Carranza forces moved toward Babricora El Valle and Carmen as Villa allegedly defeated near Cruces and retreating northward toward El Valle A second report claims Villa was still fighting at Namiquipa south of Cruces amid possible clash with American troops within 36 hours.
Reported fighting continued late today with the Carranza forces pressing their advance. If Villa loses ground he will be forced to move northward along a road where a detachment of American troops is riding.
Six biplanes of the First Aero Squadron under Captain B D Foulois arrived to scout for Villa in the Mexican mountains. Two left Columbus last night and one this morning. four spent the night near La Ascencion. Pilots named include S C G Chapman J E Carberry H A Dorgus T S Brown R H Willis and EB S Gonnell with W G Kilner unreported.
