The three masted schooner John F. Kranz of Boston was blown onto rocks off South Somerset early this morning during a gale. The vessel remains aground with crew aboard and cannot be hauled off until at least tomorrow. unloading may be required to refloat. Built in 1871, 140 feet long with 643 tons, she is lumber laden and consigned to Cook Borden & Co of Boston.

Granite cutters balk at proposed compromise in wage dispute
On March 16 a conference of Granite Manufacturers Association delegates and Granite Cutters National Union representatives failed to reach a settlement. The manufacturers offered eight hours work six days a week with a standard wage of 2.60 dollars a day and a minimum of 2.40 plus 10 percent in the piece price for 189, to March 1.
