Market turns mixed after four day rally as bears test gains

Prices rose early but trading cooled and the list closed irregularly. Bulls argued the day strengthened the market’s technical posture with volume favoring higher prices, while profit taking followed the recent rise. Canadian Pacific hit a high, Steel Union Pacific and Reading reached new peaks since rate decisions. Missouri Pacific lagged, sugar rose on no clear news, and Virginia Carolina Chemical and Central Leather showed activity. February foreign trade figures showed a strong export balance, prompting debate over possible padding but suggesting the bear case weakened as a result.
