Jenkins About a $2000 salary and an estimated $4000 yearly net income from office fees The panel questioned why books were not kept and plans to draft a bill barring further appropriation of meter fees. German Ambassador Von Holleben Feted at Cambridge Visit

The German ambassador Baron Von Holleben spent a day at Cambridge with a sequence of lunches and tours. Hotel Benedict A Charity House For Working Girls

Salvation Army opens Hotel Benedict on Common street as a home for working girls with a cafe on the ground floor and separate lodging for those who cannot pay. The five story brick building, heated by steam and lit by gas, houses a parlor, writing desk, books, and self supplied kitchens, with access from Bowdoin Square through a public dedication ceremony.

Dedication Address Delayed by Illness at New Structure

At 3 o'clock an inspection of the new structure was held with contributors and friends in attendance. Consul Mrs Booth Tucker could not deliver the dedicatory address due to illness, sending a telegram of regret and promising an extended visit with Commander Tucker. The address was delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Cozens of Boston.

Remains Found After Battle Near Santiago

The Navy reports a Spanish seaman died aboard the Gloucester while bringing him ashore from the wreck of the Pluton. Remains were found in a chair four miles west of Santiago. officials believe Villamil’s body lies at sea.

Man hanged for murder built by his own hands

In Atlanta on March 14 Robert Lewis was hanged for killing Charles Haynes, foreman on a new building project. Lewis, who had been a worker, built his own gallows two years earlier after Haynes discharged him. He shot Haynes in December.
