A 17 year old Woburn High School student tracked an alleged attacker after being chloroformed in a field near her home. She directed police to 16 South Bedford Road where arresting officer Sergeant Timothy Walsh detained eggacheerts Gangi, age 128, of Woburn.
Peabody, March 12. The scream of a woman in woods near Peabody coincided with the disappearance of Mrs. Bessie W. Buxton, 45, church organist and wife of former Selectman Herbert Buxton. She vanished from her home at 118 Central Street early yesterday after returning from an engagement at the Peabody Institute. Continued on Page 4 Third Col.
Seven people die and 16 are hurt when a passenger coach on the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic derails near Union City Georgia. The car fell 50 feet from a trestle after a wheel burst, tearing away from the ahead car and plunging into a shallow creek. Rescue teams labor to free the trapped and recover the victims.
Millions of dollars in currency and securities were moved yesterday from the sub treasury in the federal building to the new Federal Reserve Bank on Oliver Street. The Kid Wedge of Harvard University was arrested by Watertown Patrolman Savage after midnight for creating a disturbance in a Water town restaurant. He claimed intoxication and reportedly fell asleep on the way to the station, earning a charge of drunkenness. The fighter, once renowned in the Northwest, went to the station calmly.
The man known as Kid Wedge, listed as Frederick R. Wedge, was booked and placed in cell 3 where he slept. Watertown police failed to reach Harvard officials. A Harvard hero of 70 ring battles, son of a lumberjack, illiterate until married, later educated and graduated from a western college. He aimed to enter Harvard Graduate School after arriving in Boston by freight, with admission finally granted amid uncertainty.
An automobile carrying General Jan Smuts was fired upon while en route to the Rand near Potchefstroom. He escaped injury as a bullet struck the car during the March 12 attack reported by the Associated Press.
