Pied Piper of Hamelin staged for charity at Boston Theatre

The first of four performances of The Pied Piper of Hamelin will be at 10 45 this morning in the Boston Theatre with Miss Margaret MacLaren Eager in charge. Proceeds go to the Tyler Street Day Nursery and the show lists Henry I Marshall as Pied Piper and Lawrence Duffy as Mayor among a large cast.

In Andover on March 9 the body of an unidentified man about 50 was found in the Shaw sheen River. No clues to his identity were available.

Grand jury hold for Nicholas Canfield in Charlestown case

Nicholas Canfield, self confessed incendiary, was arraigned in Charles Town Municipal Court and held for the grand jury on a $5000 bond after pleading not guilty. His mother Julia Canfield described his troubled upbringing and uncertain employment history while police noted no known gang affiliation.

Boston Native Drum Nominated for First Lieutenant

The president nominates Second Lieutenant Hugh A Drum to be first lieutenant in the Twelfth Infantry. The Boston boy, son of the late Captain John Drum killed at San Juan on July 1 1898, will be 21 in September and was a Boston College sophomore at appointment.

Municipal Court Gases Sentences and Holds

In the Municipal Criminal Court yesterday George Green and Joe Murphy were held in $800 each for grand jury exposure after being picked up in a dime amusement place. John Williams and Patrick Bjork were sent to the House of Correction for six months for stealing from an express wagon and two coats and shoes. John F Brown and Frank Hardy received six months for bicycle theft. William Vigel and Clara Jones were held in $1200 for the grand jury after breaking into Estella Smith’s room with a table fork.

Highwaymen Captured Near Guilford Road

Brattleboro Vermont reports three alleged highwaymen aged about 20 from Greenfield Massachusetts were captured after shooting farmer Joseph Houghton on the Guilford road. The trio William Dempsey James Welsh and Charles Blake led by Dempsey faced a pursuing posse. Dempsey’s father is jailed for a prior sentence and Dempsey was dishonorably discharged from Company L in 1900 for larceny. They also robbed milkman Edward Tomb prior to the shooting.
