Three Highwaymen Shoot Brattleboro Man in Vermont

A 70 year old man, Joseph Houghton, was shot and seriously wounded in Brattleboro by three highwaymen. Officers and Guilford residents pursued the fugitives, exchanging fire. one hunter was hit in the thigh and at least one bandit may have been wounded as the trio fled into the woods.

Plan to charter navy ship for Paris Exposition trip

The Common Council debated a plan to send a city delegation to the Paris Exposition using a Navy cruiser. Charles Horrigan proposed appointing a seven member committee to request loan of the Boston or another ship from the Secretary of the Navy in Washington.
