A Santa Fe construction crew suffered one fatality after another when a premature dynamite explosion at Keen Brook killed a man and four crew members and injured 25 others, some fatally, today.
Mrs. Mabel A. Kelcher testified in East Cambridge Divorce Court that she urged Mrs. Gertrude Webber to drop the case to protect their 16 year old daughter Viola, but Mrs. Webber refused. Kelcher, sister of Samuel N. Webber of Cambridge, denied pressing for alienation of affections.
Court hearing outlines accusations of cruelty and harassment by Mrs. Webber and counterclaims by Mr. Webber. Allan H. Adams, Somerville druggist, faces suit for alienation of affections. Testimony describes alleged hotel meetings, gifts, and threats amid a contested divorce style case. Judge Hitchcock to hear arguments next morning. The second item cites a home remedy for cough using Pinex and sugar syrup claimed to relieve coughs within 24 hours.
Responding to a petition of 1500 East Everett residents, the Elevated will add a line of extra cars from Glendale square to Sullivan square via Chelsea and Ferry streets. The change takes effect March 8 with a car every 10 minutes during morning 6 18 to 7 58 and evening 5 14 to 6 14. A theatre car will run from Malden square at 10 25 p m to serve Malden playhouses, improving after theatre service. John L Wells of 28 Ferry street leads the campaign.
Army regulations end Major-General Leonard Wood’s term as chief of staff at midnight. Secretary Garrison and President Wilson will decide whether Wood is redesignated or another major general is chosen. If no action is taken, Major-General Wood could act as senior officer awaiting assignment.
Workmen will tear up the House chamber floor to re arrange for 50 additional members joining the 63d Congress on April 1. Desks and chairs will be removed and a new floor layout made to seat rows of benches. Capitol superintendent Elliott Woods has planned for a maximum seating of 466 with 435 members in the new House.
