Charles L. McCoy, a 30 year old colored man of 15 Winchester Street, is under arrest at Station 5 for the death of Barnatt Maeder, a suspender pedler from 40 Kirkland Street. Witnesses saw a colored man chase Maeder to Milford Street Wednesday, then strike him in the street, causing a brain concussion. McCoy was identified and will be arraigned in Municipal Criminal Court with potential charge changes to manslaughter.

Salem March 5 Mayor Turner announced four year terms for Peter McNiff and HK A Yasinski and six years for Robert Pollock, all cited as license commissioners. Pollock is a barber Republican and fire department assistant. McNiff a Democrat shoemaker and former Common Council member. Yasinski a Republican tobacconist and G A R member. All are described as the Mayor’s personal friends.
