The president speaks in New York addressing Republican Senate foes and rallying support for a world covenant to prevent future wars. He says opponents underestimate global desires and that a united world order will overwhelm resistance, asserting a broad American backing for preventing future conflicts.
Washington March 4 Congress adjourned without appropriating 750 million dollars for railways leaving the railroad administration with nearly empty coffers about 381 million dollars in back debts and no funds to finance this year’s planned improvements. Immediate relinquishment of the roads to private control is implied.
Armed men robbed Hubert T. Giblin’s wholesale liquor store at 804 Dorchester Avenue taking $60 after forcing the clerk to the floor. Moments later three youths armed with revolvers struck tailor wae Levine at 198 Biegler Streets, beating the tailor and failing to take any money before fleeing. Police suspect the same gang carried out both crimes.
Boston congressman John F. Fitzgerald visited Washington pressing for Boston harbor relief. He met the President who advised contacting the War Department and pledged support. He also conferred with Secretary Baker and Secretary Daniels, who referred him to General Burr for a thorough review.
