Public Wool Sale In New York Shows Steady Prices
The California and Cape wool sale drew fair crowds in New York on March 3. Prices remained mostly steady given quality, with desirable lots selling quickly and poorer parcels lingering. California wool ranged 54 to 454 unwashed and 50 to 644 washed, while Cape wool saw limited sales. Santa Fe brought 27 2374 and Orleans 23 to 27. Buyers from Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and New England towns attended.

In Cincinnati March 3 a mob attack at the Express office in Dayton by soldiers of the 44th Ohio regiments left one dead and two wounded. The Home Guard was activated amid rising tensions. Separately at Scuvulkyll Haven a mob of drunk soldiers ransacked Augustus Debol store accusing him of Knights of the Golden Circle affiliation.
