Bennington Rumor Clarifies Private Osterle’s Home
Local residents in Bennington question a War Department casualty listing for Private George J. Osterle. The telegram directing his message to 112 Union Street Burlington seems incorrect, as no Osterle family resides there and no such address exists. Osterle, a former underwear knitter, lived with his mother in Bennington and served in the First Vermont Regiment before transferring to France.
