Ornamental luminous arc lights brighten North Cambridge district

Ornamental luminous flaming arc lights extend along Massachusetts avenue through North Cambridge business section. They were lit at 7:50 PM, with stores staying open late for the occasion. River Blaze From Cigarette Sparks Pittsfield Stream

June 26 an employee of General Electric caused a fire on the east branch of the Housatonic River in Pittsfield by tossing a lighted cigarette into the water. Flames rose from the surface and enveloped him before he escaped to safety.

Electric Plant Fire Threat Scribbles Berkshire River Damaging Blaze

Flames towered about 20 feet along the river threatening a General Electric plant. Pittsfield Lenox and Lee fire crews fought the blaze by spraying water to push flames toward grass and extinguish it, though lives were at risk. An oil tank at GE leaked into drains feeding the river, igniting from a cigarette. Mills recovered thousands of pickerel and land locked salmon killed by heat. Foss Opens Town Hall Dedication in Braintree

Portland firearms firm treasurer dies after self inflicted shot

Wilbur C. Jordan treasurer of a Portland sporting goods and hardware firm died at a hospital after shooting himself at the Park Avenue entrance to Deering Park last night. Officials said no inquest will be held as no evidence of foul play was found and it remained unclear whether the act was suicide or accident.
