Market dull as Mexican Central stock moves and bonds shift
Mexican Central securities led a dull local market with most bonds sold except 6000, prices swinging from 31% to 39, later near 37%. Scrip and incomes traded modestly, about 5000 shares changed hands and $710,900 in bonds and scrip moved, including $550,000 in 7s. Analysts note mixed value opinions, a possible rebound to 42 or 43 before a pullback, and discuss subsidy cuts and government actions affecting the railway. Atchison and New York and New England mixed, Bell Telephone and other issues quoted as noted.

Remembering Joseph W. Torrey and the Boston Histrionic Club
Henry Laurens Bascombe recalls Joseph W. Torrey's warmth toward theater. In 1848 he organized a club of amateurs the Boston Histrionic and my first appearance was at the Howard under Joe's management. In 1851 an actress found in poverty on Friend Street was aided by a meeting called by Torrey, the Howard engaged, and the club staged the Honeymoon and three farces, yielding about 300 for the actress before she returned to the boards.
