Prof Rogers Ascent Ends in Grounding Near North Yarmouth

Prof. Rogers from Portland their balloon Goddess of Liberty ascended from Lincoln Park at noon and descended near North Yarmouth. Weather forced rapid descent and a drag rope and grapnel were used to avoid sea. The balloon struck a tree, exploded to save the occupants, and collapsed. Italia Wreck Rescue Sinks Puno Limas 25 June

The steamship Puno arrived with 53 Italia survivors. Seventy are missing and only eight passengers and one crew member were saved. The disaster followed wrong orders by the third officer who killed himself. The purser’s boat was swamped as the steamer sank. Passengers on land faced severe hardships before aid arrived.

Lynching Of Thieves By Texas Posse Reaches Fifteen Dead

Dallas news reports a citizens' posse pursuing Delaware Bend outlaws hanged eight on Tuesday and captured four more whom they killed. Confirmed by Burlough and Gainesville. About three weeks earlier three thieves were lynched, totaling 15 dead outlaws, with 20 gang members slain since last spring and several officers killed.

Blood Re-elected President For Connotton Valley Railway

In Cleveland on June 25 the reorganized Connotton Valley railway directors elected H. A. Blood president D. K. Stevens secretary W. O. Chapman treasurer E D Hewens assistant treasurer and Samuel Briggs general manager. A by law adoption followed and an advisory committee to operate under directors was formed. Arrests on board steamer to France in marriage dispute

A deputy sheriff arrested a man just before he boarded a steamer to France on an order from his wife Mrs Louise Larcher. She filed for separation claiming lack of support. the couple married in Paris in 1876 and separated four years ago. The professor was released after one hour. District Attorney Martine says Mrs Dudley’s trial is next week. a commission was sent to England to examine her sanity. At Holy Cross Worcester Bishop O'Reilly and many Catholic clergy attended the commencement where 25 graduates heard an address by Gov. Robinson. Mt. Remains of Rajah Torrey Buried at Forest Hills

The remains of Rajah Joseph W. Torrey were buried at Forest Hills on Thursday after funeral services at 3 PM at St James Episcopal Roxbury with Rev George S Converse officiating. Reunion of forty fifth cadet regiment at Swampscott

About 250 comrades attended the reunion on Thursday at Swampscott. Sergt Charles E C Breck was elected president. Addresses were given by Royal P. Barry Lieut Alpheus Hardy Lieut J F Emmons Capt Miles Blanchard of the Ocean Bride and others. Roses were strewn at the soldiers monument and a wreath placed. There were 175 in the dress parade.
