Boston high schools awarded 790 diplomas with Girls' High School leading at 223 graduates. Commerce 163, English 159, and West Roxbury 74. Notable first: a colored girl from Brighton High School tops class with 9.5 average. Other ceremonies include Roxbury and Latin School. Tufts president to address. Mechanic Arts diplomas tonight.
George L. Baxter retired after 44 years as head master of Somerville English High and Latin schools. The audience cheered as he walked the platform at First Methodist Episcopal Church during a simple graduation program. Professor Alexander Meiklejohn spoke. Henry H. Folsom awarded diplomas. Norville Milmore received a loving cup on behalf of the class. Graduates, led by Helen T. Field and Meta P. Einhauser, showered Baxter with flowers at his home.
President Taft praised the Aldrich National Reserve Association plan as sound banking reform. He spoke to bankers at Manhattan Beach, saying the plan would establish 7000 national banks on a representative Republican basis and avoid concentrating power in Wall Street or Washington.
