Mrs. J. T. Murphy of Lawton avenue surprised two burglars in her house shortly after 10 tonight. She smashed one with a water pitcher, knocking him unconscious, then she shouted for help. Police recovered $250 and search for the two suspects began.
Delegates in Chicago on June 19 discussed the vice presidential selection with Senator Fairbanks of Indiana the leading contender though uncommitted. Factional pushes for Representative Hitt of Illinois emerged as a rival as tariff plank debates heated up and state delegations prepared to organize committees.
A Sunday Post edition yesterday cost readers five cents but involved nearly $10,000 in expenditure. It featured nine sections including Tiger Mask Wolf Mask novelty, a vibrant Women’s Section, color comics and Fatty Felix humor, colored magazines, sheet music, and editorial and news sections, totaling 32 extra pages. At 5 p.m. on June 19 the British torpedo boat destroyer Sparrow Hawk struck an uncharted rock off Saddle Islands near Hangchow Bay and was a total loss. The guns were saved and no lives were lost in the disaster.

June 19 report says the Vladivostok squadron disappeared off Cape Hanashi and has not been sighted since. It is presumed to be returning to Vladivostok while the whereabouts of Kamimura’s vessels remain a closely guarded secret.
The Japanese transport Izumi, reported missing, was sunk by the Vladivostok fleet off Oshima Island last Wednesday morning. It carried 108 passengers. Crew launched boats as the Russian fleet appeared. noncombatants boarded Unko and reached Maizum. Russian vessels reportedly sailed toward Hokkaido.
A dispatch from Mukden reports that trustworthy advices indicate an entire Japanese infantry regiment and its commander were sunk in the transports Hitachi and Sado near St Petersburg on June 19.
