Prize-Winning Horses Perish in Dorchester Stable Fire
A Dorchester avenue stable housing about 125 horses and 100 teams burned after a smoky blaze. Firefighters battled a 40 foot high roof blaze as a long ladder toppled with three men aboard. Dr Lawrence Collier and Patrolman John A Walsh disagreed over aid to the injured Ryan, with Collier saying he volunteered and Walsh claiming interference by a civilian. Fireboat Engine 44 supplied 450 feet of hose while harness rooms and a leaded glass factory were gutted. The cause may be spontaneous combustion.
