Atlantic City June 17 delegates at the American Federation of Labor convention refused to endorse recognition of Soviet Russia. They urged U S recognition of the existing Irish Republic and voted against a general July 4 strike in support of Tom Mooney, linked to the Preparedness Day bombing.
The resolutions committee reported a measure demanding withdrawal of American troops from Russia while declining to back recognition of Soviet Russia or port blockades. Frank H. Ayers a 36 year old South End boarder was shot after six in a crowded Hurley bar lounge at 1128 Washington Street by Albert M. Boggs. Boggs 52 fired three shots from a 32 caliber revolver. One bullet lodged in a wall mirror and another shattered a skylight. Boggs was overpowered by bartender Walter J. Brown and Daniel J. Lee as patrons tried to flee.
In a struggle at the front door of the establishment the remaining revolver chambers discharged but the shots went wild, producing no reported injuries. Police investigate the chaotic event and question witnesses.
John and Henrietta Kendig of Michigan fled Peaks Island for Bangor after abandoning a trunk linked to the Westboro murder suspects known as Doll Baby and Sneaks.
