Congressional leaders prepare a pathway for a confrontation with Mexico. They will appoint a committee to investigate all phases of the situation and report actions for Congress. The aim is intervention to check disorder.
In Washington on June 18, Republican leaders in Congress moved to probe United States Mexico relations since 1910. Representative N J Gould of New York introduced a resolution to appoint a six member special committee, three from each chamber, to review the issue comprehensively from all angles.
Harry Baker and wife Eleanor known as the Baby Doll were taken into custody in Bangor. Harry says he was with Dwight P. Chapman in Westboro at 8 p.m. on June 8, the last time Chapman was seen alive. Mrs Baker claims Chapman made an improper proposal.
The Bakers and State Officer Robert F. E Molt of Worcester and Westboro Chief W E Johnson head to Boston after a gun was taken from Mrs Baker in a hotel room. A warrant exists in Massachusetts and the couple deny the murder they will face in Worcester.
June 18 attempt to introduce evidence that Mrs Bessie Mae Skeels Lundgren poisoned her brother Albert Wilkins of Bayonne New Jersey with sugar of lead and that she is indicted there for homicide. The state plans the move at her trial for the alleged murder.
At Weimar the German peace delegation advises the cabinet to reject the peace treaty. Experts with the delegation say the terms are unacceptable. The document is before the National Assembly's peace commission for study.
Unofficial reports say many German cabinet members oppose signing the treaty but fear Bolshevik chaos if they refuse. German newspapers bleakly predict either signing or refusing could spark renewed hostilities, with some anticipating renewed fighting as the armistice nears its end.
Theo dore N. Vail predicted a new era of prosperity for the telephone business in a hotel interview. He described recent executive changes at American Telephone & Telegraph Company approved at the board meeting the previous day.
The president resigns to chair the board while H B Thayer, with 49 years in telephone operations, becomes president. The reorganization aims to maintain policy continuity amid a return to private ownership. Vail notes the telePhone business is thriving despite staff withdrawals.

Rose Sadie age 16 of 140 Windsor Hartford is held at Somerville police station as a runaway awaiting her parents. She was found yesterday at 84 Grant Street Somerville by Patrolman Dwyer after eloping with Oscar Pannona of 599 Front Street Hartford who planned to marry her. Parents rushed to Boston and spoke with Chief Kendall before the girl was taken to the station.
Congress moved to terminate the daylight saving law as a war measure. Both Senate and House approved repeal by large majorities, with operation ending when summer time ends on October 26. The action marks the doom of daylight saving in the period following the war measure.
The House passed a repeal bill by 233 to 132 after three hours of debate, blocking immediate effect. The Senate approved a rider to repeal in the same date, sending the measure to conference. the plan preserves daylight time this summer and fall, with sun time returning Oct. 26 after two years of daylight saving.
John Martin Graham former president of the International Trust Company of Boston died in Santa Barbara California this afternoon after a stroke of paralysis.

The probe will examine the economic ties with Britain and others under the Monroe Doctrine and the U S obligation for prior losses.

Senator Thomas P. Gore of Oklahoma was injured when his car overturned near Sioux Falls while traveling from Mitchell. He was thrown to the ground as the automobile rolled, causing nonfatal injuries.
Major John W. Hyatt longtime senior aide to General Eads was appointed morale officer for the Northeastern Department and will continue duties in Boston.
