Fire Devastates Bay of Islands NI Settlement

A Bay of Islands blaze from Corner Brook to Cook's Brook five miles left 260 people destitute as forest fires raged three days. Most men were away at Labrador fisheries leaving women to cope. Shelters are set up in the courthouse and in unburned stores for the homeless.

Palmer in Hospital After Acquittal for Insanity

Amos D. Palmer, tried June 7 for his wife’s murder and acquitted June 10 by reason of insanity, was committed today by Governor Dyer to Butler Hospital Providence for treatment. Though a ward of the State, his considerable private wealth will cover all expenses.

Sklylight Glass Incident Injures 88 Year Old Woman

Kate Maroney was severely cut in her left arm when a skylight pane fell at her home. An artery was severed and she faced life threatening bleeding until Dr. McFrankel treated her at the scene and she was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Riot disrupts streetcar strike at Perkins crossing

In Cleveland on June 14 a riot erupted at the Cleveland & Pittsburg crossing on Perkins avenue during a street car strike. About 5 000 workers in nearby shops faced a mob blocking Wade Park avenue cars, stoning them as police failed to hold the line. Motorman J H Anderson from Toledo was severely injured by bricks before police reinforcements dispersed the crowd.

Man Overcome by Heat Reported on Broadway Extension

Michael Sullivan a 49 year old man was found unconscious from heat on Broadway extension by Station 4 police at about 530 last evening. He was taken to City Hospital and described as 5 feet 8 inches tall 160 pounds with dark hair mustache and complexion. Anyone able to care for him should contact the police or hospital.

Woman Falls From Window To City Hospital

Ellen Collins aged 35 residing at 239 West Third Street fell from a second story window into the back yard about midnight. She sustained spine and left arm injuries and was attended by Dr. McDonald who ordered her removal to City Hospital.

Samuel W. Clark, a police officer of Division 4, was discharged from the department by the Police Board last evening after being found guilty of violating Rule 26 of the police manual relating to the use of intoxicating liquors.

Norseman Four-masted Steamship to be Auctioned in June

The Norseman, stranded last March at Marblehead Neck while sailing from Liverpool, was floated at sea and brought to port for temporary repairs. It will be sold at public auction at H. Harris & Co. warerooms, State Street, at 1 p m on June 22.

Lightning Strikes Ellsworth Falls Mill Wrecks Roof

Lightning struck and wrecked the roof of Charles J. Treworgy's lumber mill at Ellsworth Falls. Fifteen men were shocked by the electricity, three unconscious for hours. The ensuing fire was put out before extensive damage occurred.
