At Nantasket Beach a Tech alumni carnival unfolded with 5000 people including scientists, millionaires and graduates from global tech circles. The event featured elaborate parades, stunts, reviews, and moving pictures as thousands traveled by steamer and private yachts for a day of sport, pageantry, and reunion.
Names and ranks of organizers for yesterday's beach events listed. Chief marshal Colonel Charles Hay den led the staff with lieutenant colonels and majors directing divisions and class marshals ranging from 1868 to 1916, detailing numerous officers and assignments.
More than 2,000 spectators watched the colossal pageant of Technology and the Masque of Power staged in the Grand Court on the MIT campus along the Charles River Esplanade. It marked the first real performance, with Monday’s dress rehearsal lacking much of the incidental pomp.
The pageant dazzled Boston with over 1200 costumed participants and a grand Bucentaur voyage to Tech. Gov McCall attended with staff, while Mayor Curley of Boston and Mayor Rockwood of Cambridge arrived for the lavish ceremony. The show featured a 500-voice chorus, a 100-member orchestra, original music by James Ecker, and a fireworks finale that lit the night sky. Photographers faced near-misses as bombs exploded overhead during the fireworks.
