Witnesses recount bribery scheme in Senate inquiry
Charles H. Nichols testifies he helped form the People's Elevated Railroad company and describes money flows through Sanderson Hager and Grant. He says he warned Carver and Grant about payments, recalls seven committee members, and notes conversations about bribing legislators. He admits receiving about 100 dollars in cigars and favors from Sanderson and describes watching Hager and Fassett at the Tremont House bar.

Senator Fassett Exonerated as Robed Counsel Closes Remarks
The debate over Fassett's conduct concluded with Hurlburt arguing charges were unsupportable. He defended Fassett against accusations of selling votes to the West End company and pressed that no witness proved bribery or compensation. He praised Donovan and Watson while criticizing Sanderson and Nichols for alleged malice and conspiracy in the People's company push. The committee adjourned at 6 10 with the investigation to resume at 10 oclock.
