Carrie Nation the Kansas saloon smasher died in Leavenworth Kansas of paresis after months of nervous disorders. She entered a sanitarium on January 22 where she passed away.
Mrs Nation collapsed after filing lawsuits against a lecture bureau for nonpayment. The physician at the sanitarium reported the end near and she died quietly at noon with only the doctor and a nurse present. Relatives were telegraphed as worry over legal action is blamed for the breakdown.
Carrie Nation, born 1846 in Kentucky, opposed alcohol after personal tragedy. She became a militant prohibitionist, smashing saloons including the Carry Hotel in Wichita on December 27, 1890, and spreading anti drinking rhetoric across Kansas. Her actions spurred public demand to close saloons and led to stricter prohibitory legislation.
Fair in Boston and vicinity on Saturday with likely continued fair Sunday. Seasonable temperatures and moderate south to southwest winds. Washington forecast notes New England also fair Saturday and Sunday with moderate south winds.
Dorchester marks 281 years since The Mary and John landed in Savin Hill harbor with a planned large celebration led by Mayor Fitzgerald. Aviator Harry N. Atwood will fly from Squantum to Franklin Field for aerial stunts, weather permitting. Mayor declines air ride but will meet Dorchester High School Cadets at his home for the march to the field and flag presentation.

Average temperature yesterday was 60 with range 20 to 24. A year ago the average was 66 with 21 to 24. Saturday last year was fair.

The subway lease bill cleared both metropolitan affairs and street railways committees with only seven of thirty voting against it after a long all day session.
A Springfield department store floorwalker and the daughter of Congressman John E Andrus of Yonkers eloped in New York but waited at the Hotel Touraine for a forgiveness telegram from the Congressman that never arrived. The couple, linked to Yale football fame, faced a stalled reconciliation as the hoped message did not come.
Mr and Mrs Hobbs disclosed they eloped due to delays by Mr Andrus and plan to sail for Naples aboard the Ro manic after a Boston getaway. They say Twe found work in Springfield and saved a bank roll while Congressman Andrus remains unreconciled and awaits their first move. Ham Andrus may mediate.
American league results show St Louis and Boston leading with decisive wins over Philadelphia and Detroit while New York and Cleveland struggle. National league notes include Boston SF and Pittsburg victories as Chicago and Cincinnati also post wins. Meanwhile Boston women golfers defend Gris cup as Bermuda race is canceled and Yale eight displays strong form ahead of Thantes.
Police Captain John F. Driscoll led a squad to 392 Massachusetts Avenue basement at 6 PM last night and arrested 36 men found gambling with dice. The raid is described as the largest by the department in arrests.
Among those arrested were John H. Noonan and other well known sportsmen. A man named John Dolan posed as watchman but was tackled by Sergeant Mullen as a handkerchief was pulled from his face. The raid drew a crowd, officers secured the scene, and bail was set at 25 dollars for all.
