Humbert Goes Resigns as City Surveyor in Denver

Pierre Humbert will today send his resignation to Mayor Curtis, citing plans to return to Colorado to focus on mining and silver interests. Appointed three years ago by Mayor Matthews, Humbert expanded the department on a business basis and contributed to public improvements, while also writing on engineering and aiding Cain's Financial School.

Fire Threat Burns Middletown Livery Stables District

Hartford June 7 The central business section of Middletown narrowly escaped a large fire. Fire began about 9 pm at Smith Harris livery stable on Court Street and gutted the block between Court and Centre. Loss placed at 50000 with insurance of 50000. Fire damaged saloons, clubs, and a Buell Blatchley block top floor.

Harmon Named Attorney General From Ohio in Olney's Cabinet

Washington June 7 announced at the White House the appointment of Judson Harmon of Ohio as Attorney-General, joining Richard Olney of Massachusetts as Secretary of State. Harmon is described as a senior partner in the Cincinnati firm Harmon Colston Goldsmith Hoadley, a 49 year old judge with a long career on Ohio benches and a lineage tracing to New York. He was born February 8, 1846 in Hamilton County and educated at Dennison University and Cincinnati Law School. He previously served as Common Pleas Judge, Superior Court judge, and later joined the law firm’s successors in 1887. He is married to Olive Scobey with two children.
